Hypocrisy is Good: Until Someone Catches You

A few days ago, I wrote about the Worldwide Day of Play, and I mentioned how Nick would be getting a better reputation from it. Well, that's true, but guess what? They lied! They probably don't really care about the obesity issue. If they really cared, why would they make fun of Josh Peck in Drake and Josh so much, when he was overweight, but once he lost weight, he wasn't as big(no pun intended) of a loser on the show. Sure, he still was a victim of bad luck, but Drake also became a victim, so it's not that bad.
Disney has also done this, too. Remember Disney's Friends For Change? Well, they pretty much were hypocrites a few years earlier. Remember Saint Sarah of Hannah Montana? They treated her like a freak, just because she was environmental. They also have done this to Cody in The Suite Life on Deck, when he just wanted the SS Tipton to recycle.

Seriously, what's with channels mocking people, then making causes which relate to what they were mocking? ._.

Sonny With A Chance- Plagirism is NOT okay

Yesterday, a Sonny With a Chance episode aired, as you could see. The plot? Sonny has to work with Chad in a So Random sketch and -gasp- kiss him! And we all know this isn't okay, because they're mortal enemies. Even though they're always together. And even though they bicker like an old married couple. Yet Sonny wants to kiss him? Hmm, where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, Hannah Montana, Episode 15, "More than a Zombie to Me". Replace Sonny with Hannah, Chad with Jake, and So Random with Zombie High, and you got yourselves a Hannah Montana episode.
Disney, I don't care if you had writer's block. I don't care if you thought nobody would notice. What you pretty much did was tell your viewers it's okay to plagiarize.
Plus, if you're going to copy something, at least make it a parody, or better than the original.

The N and Noggin become Null and Void

So recently, I was watching The N reruns of What I Like About You, which they show a lot lately. If it's not Degrassi being shown, then it's What I Like About You. Well, I don't really watch the show, though, I just catch it sometimes. But yeah, anyway, on a commercial break, they said "On September 28, 2009, The N will become TeenNick".
I was like: What? I decided to search it on Wikipedia, and it said The N and Noggin will become TeenNick and Nick Jr., respectively. (To all you Anti-Wikiers: There were sources, and there was a commercial, so it's not made up bologna. :P)
I don't really care about Noggin changing; not even the target audience watches it, seeing as things like Wizards of Waverly Place are child friendly, too. And I think it's a premium channel?
But The N. It can't change. It shouldn't change. I mean, yeah, all it really is is just a name change to make it clear that Nickelodeon owns it, but it's going to be ugly. Really ugly.
If you don't imagine what could go wrong, just imagine this. Most The N watchers are Degrassi fans, since that's pretty much the only thing they show. Then if they're going to call it TeenNick, then that probably means that they're going to add shows like Drake and Josh or Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Probably not the latter, seeing as even Nick avoids the hugely underrated show like the plague. But yeah, TeenNick will probably have things like Drake and Josh on it.
Let's see what could go wrong.
Degrassi, a show which exaggerates the drama in high school, and Drake and Josh, a show which exaggerates sibling rivalry, on the same channel. On TeenNick's forum or message board, radical, opinionated fans of either show will be like "Degrassi is better than Drake and Josh! Drake and Josh should find it's own channel!" or "TeenNick is Drake and Josh's home! Degrassi should stay in Canada!". Still didn't get it? Shows with everything opposite, on the same channel. The community's going to split. TeenNick will lose its Degrassi fans, or its sitcom fanbase.

LILY ALLEN DID WHAT NOW?

So even if I don't talk about her a lot, I like Lily Allen's music. Her voice is nice, the rhythm's catchy, and her lyrics are true. And she's kind of the only person who could make cursing sound less rude than it normally is. Recently, I was listening to one of her songs on Youtube, and I decided to read the comments out of boredom. Someone said "great voice, too bad she's gonna be an actress."
My thoughts: Wait, what? Lily can't quit being a singer! She's great at singing! She sings songs that are tru
e!
Yes, she has the right to do whatever she wants, but still. It's going to be kind of weird knowing she won't make any new songs.
Good luck to her, though.

Worldwide Day of Play

So if you have been watching Nickelodeon in September, you've noticed they have had commercials for their annual "Worldwide Day of Play", in which they pretty much just don't show anything on the channel from noon till 3, and expect kids everywhere to get up, go outside, and play. Easier said than done, however. Seriously, did Nick EVEN think about things that could go wrong in this 'marathon'?
  • Bad Weather: In case the Nick executives didn't notice, not everywhere is 100% Sunshine. Like my town. Today it was raining, so I don't see how someone could go out and play.
  • Sick or Handicapped: Yeah, try to tell me how someone could go out and play with a cold or broken leg. :\
  • Bad Neighborhood: There are some streets which aren't safe for kids to play in.
  • Watch Another Channel: In a way, Nick kinda just told kids "You could go outside and play, or you could just change the channel. The choice is yours!" Seriously, I just changed the channel, so Nick was kind of just letting their competition win. :\
Still, the Worldwide Day of Play had some good things for Nickelodeon in store:
  • Soccer Mom Support: Let's face it, soccer moms everywhere will applaud Nick for encouraging kids to be active, so soccer moms will probably buy Nickelodeon stuff instead of Disney stuff, when they have to be compared to each other(Christmas DVD stocking stuffers: iCarly VS Sonny With a Chance much?).
  • Better Reputation: Even if Worldwide Day of Play is a failure, the executives at Nickelodeon will be able to say, "Hey, at least we did something."
  • Alternatives: Rather than watching TV all day, I actually did homework, which I would procrastinate on if they had the channel running. Well, I wouldn't really watch Nick anyway, unless Ned's Declassified or iCarly was on at noon, but I'm pretty sure there were some people who did something educational instead of vegging out in front of the TV screen.
And on a final note, Nick seemed to be serious for this. Well, their sister networks(The N[Teenick?], Noggin[Nick Jr?], and Nicktoons) all had messages for their viewers too. And guess what? They were all individual messages which applied to the theme of the channel! Noggin/Nick Jr. had a classroom with the WDoP logo on it, with the announcer saying what's going on, and had a cartoon character come in reminding viewers to get off the couch. The N/Teenick had somewhat sarcastic messages like "Go get some fresh mall air". Then Nicktoons... just failed. It was a black background with the logo and a marquee explaining what was going on. Last minute much? Also, none of the channels had Spongebob or Miranda Cosgrove or any of their other cash cows on the channel's screen saver! For Nick, this is something to be proud of.
Anyway, I kinda like Nick's way of fighting obesity more than Disney's way of saving the environment.

A Very Special Hannah Montana

Yesterday, Disney decided to air an episode of Hannah Montana which was supposed to be aired November 2, 2008. Yet, it got banned because the subject was too sensitive. After rewriting the plot, Disney aired it. Personally, I thought the only thing which was rude was Miley Stewart's attitude towards Oliver. But we couldn't say anything, because she was the main character, after all. She was just immature throughout the episode. But I guess the PSA at the end was good.

EDIT: I kinda noticed that I never really explained what the episode was about. It's about Oliver getting diagnosed with Diabetes, and Miley and Lily are being the food patrol to him at a party with tons of sweets.

Stereotypes I hate in TV

Well, from all of the sitcoms I've seen on Disney and Nickelodeon, I've been seriously sick of some stereotypes that they've had, like:
  • Being Single is a Bad Thing: Proof? Almost all of That's So Raven Season 3 has been "Raven needs a man". What's so bad about being single? I mean, Raven's had great times with her family and friends, so she doesn't really need a boyfriend, especially if she has Devon, who she never officially broke up with. There even was an episode of Hannah Montana, where Oliver and Lilly try to find a boyfriend for Miley so she won't be a third wheel. Miley was actually happy though single, and Oliver and Lily never got that. Ironic much? Especially seeing that this seems like a Miley thing to do. Also, whenever Jackson isn't getting tormented by Rico, he's trying to impress a girl. Really, why can't ANYONE stay single? They're in their teens in shows with a target audience of 8-14. I really don't think dating is what they should be doing.
  • Brains are Bad, too: Let's face it: Josh Nichols(sp?), Cody Martin, Maddie Fitzpatrick, Justin Russo, the list goes on and on. If you do good in school, that automatically will make you accident prone, clumsy, and bullied on, while the dumber people just seem to keep on getting luckier by the episode.

Thoughts on the VMAs

Last night I watched the VMAs for the first time, and here were some stuff I thought:
  • Congratulations Taylor! I'm so happy for you. You were calm about the whole situation, and even performed after.
  • Kanye, how immature. Seriously, no offense to Beyonce, but Single Ladies was more of an exercise video if anything. You Belong With Me was relatable. Besides, you didn't have to interrupt her. Kelly Clarkson was also nominated for that award, but she didn't win, but she was a good sport about it.
  • Lady Gaga's performance was... interesting. It was gory yet cool. Even though it was scary, I liked it. Kinda.
  • When will MTV stop sucking up to Britney Spears? Yeah, she's a good artist and all, but really, it's getting quite old.
Well, that's all that I could think of at the moment, but overall, it was good.

Did Disney just do a parody?

Yeah, I'm shocked, too.
So, on Free on Demand, I watched the new Suite Life on Deck episode called Family Thais, where London meets her grandma, who's a rice farmer in Thailand. London expected someone rich, and is in a culture shock. Sounds familiar?

The Simple Life, a reality show which starred Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie a few years ago. And if London Tipton is a parody of Paris Hilton, then this means this episode might have been loosely based on The Simple Life. Good job, Disney!
Unless it was unintentional.
The episode was actually good, too. Talk about a win-win situation. Then again, there was no Woody.

Oh No They Didn't!

So, today, Disney had the Fashion Flops Marathon on Disney Channel, which is probably and most likely just to subliminally promote their fashion lines for Wizards of Waverly Place, JONAS, and the "Don't go back to school- Arrive!" thing. The episodes were just episodes which involved trendy clothes, fashion shows, and runway models. Well, that's what the commercials suggested, I didn't actually watch it, though I browsed through what episodes there were on the website, and guess what?
A certain girl with supernatural powers who works at a fashion line didn't have episodes from her show on. Yeah, that's right. Disney left out That's So Raven.

Seriously, WHAT?

After looking at the list myself, I thought some of these episodes weren't even fashion related, but just had one tiny scene that was good for the commercial. Shipnotized, (We're So Sorry) Uncle Earl, Keeping it Real, and Sonny at the Falls all had little for the fashion theme of the marathon. They could've easily squeeze That's So Raven in, but noooo, Disney has to be so obsessed with only the new stuff, that they couldn't have a more appropriate show for the marathon.
They could've even have Cory in the House. Making the Braid, Beat the Press, and That's So in the House(To an extent) all dealt with fashion-related plots. But nooo, Disney had to have episodes which has little to nothing on clothes.

On the topic of marathons, since when has Disney been airing marathons back to back? Yesterday, they had Rockin' Sunday, which was probably just an excuse to show Camp Rock again. Also, did anyone notice Sterling Knight in the background of the Rockin' Sunday promo thing, even though he wasn't in Camp Rock?

I'm not the Sprouse, Olsen, or Mowry Twins, so STOP treating me that way!

So, when I began to go to my new school back in the fall of 2007, I remember everyone asked my brother and I questions like:
  • What's it like being a twin?
  • Who's older...?
  • ....And by how much?
These questions aren't so bad, but it gets reeeally repetitive answering these questions 1,000 times. Fast forward to this week, when we started high school. Upperclassmen, teachers, other freshmen, and almost anyone who saw us began to asking these questions. It then got worse with things like:
  • Have you ever switched places?
Seriously, if I ever met the Sprouses, Mowries, or the Olsens, I would yell at them "I hate you guys and your stupid shows because they make it look like EVERY twin is like you guys!". Because of them, this is the first thing people ask us.
  • What if you got switched at birth?
Nothing would happen. I'd just call SE SS and he'd call me SE. (With our real names, though :P)
  • Is there a third of you?
No. Just no. This question is wrong on so many levels. .-.

Eventually, they began to become weirder and weirder, until they're not asking questions at all. They're just stating ideas like:
  • You guys should so totally switch places! That would be soo awesome and funny!
Uh, yeah, we can't do that because 1, if the teachers would find out, we'd be in so much trouble it's not even funny. 2, we have almost everything together this year, class wise, so it would be pointless.
  • You two should just wear the same exact clothing, and have two of every shirt, jacket, etc..
No. That's so idiotic, I can't even begin saying why I hate that idea.

Seriously, if people want to see twin adventures like this so much, just watch The Suite Life of Zack and Cody's first season, any episode of Sister, Sister, and any episode of any Mary-Kate and Ashley show, and you'll be set. If that's not enough for them, they should read The Prince and the Pauper or something. >>

First Week of School

So our first week of school was this week, and it wasn't that bad, or that good.
The Good:
  • Classes with my brother. A lot! :D
  • In all of my classes, it's people in the same academic level as me, so it's not going to be like my English class has, um, dumber people. So in other words, we'll make progress a lot faster in the classes! :D
  • Teachers seem nice. I don't have any sadists, so that's good.
The Bad:
  • School started at the second. Of September. As in before Labor Day. And we live in Northern New Jersey, where most, if not all, schools start after Labor Day. :\
  • My Graphic Communications class isn't what it said in the description. They said we would use Macs and Photoshop, but the class has neither. It's more like woods and art combined. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the class is completely horrible, I'm just saying if I knew what it actually was, I probably wouldn't take it.
  • My bus isn't that good. I have to leave my house and go to my bus stop at 7:15 in the morning. Kinda early, but whatever. What's worse is that at the end of the day, I have to go from one side of the school, to the other, and most seats in the bus are taken. :\
But yeah, other than that, the school's okay.
