So while I was on vacation, I watched Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, because of bad weather. And it was pretty good, even though I did notice a lot of similarities to past DCOMs:
Family Vacation: The Even Steven's Movie, The Proud Family Movie. The Cheetah Girls 2 and 3 somewhat apply but not really, seeing as they're not a family. (Also, in all of these movies, they've gone somewhere tropical, but that's excused because who'd want to go somewhere colder for vacation?)
"I'm 16, I could do whatever I want!": The Proud Family Movie, anyone?
Backstabbing Person: Spoiler:The Magician , and remember Marisola's mom in The Cheetah Girls 2?
Magical Elements: The Twitches franchise. Yeah, I realized that's like saying "Camp Rock copied High School Musical because they both have singing!", but yeah, this is mostly because the Russos are just using spells, unlike in the show, where they also had all kinds of magical things and creatures to deal with.
Well, that was about it, but SE and I figured that it you combine all of those, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie will be your result. The only things I disliked in the movie were:
The mom, Theresa, was shown as an antagonist. Personally, Theresa is actually one of my favorite characters from the show- Disney shouldn't try to make her seem like a villain. Otherwise, she'll get written off, like Tanya of That's So Raven.
Harper wasn't in it a lot. Then again, it would be weird if she would be there at the vacation, seeing as she's not a Russo.
Note: The following is all just a theory, and is most likely not true. Don't quote me on any of this. So, recently, Disney has made a sitcom called Sonny With a Chance, about Demi Lovato's character getting a chance to be on a sketch show called So Random, and everything that happens while she works there. Well, that's what it was about, anyway. Now, it's more or less of "Watch Sonny(Demi) and Chad(Sterling Knight) interact!". I used to actually like this series, when it was about the sketch show, So Random, and not just the Sterling Knight vehicle.Seriously, I decided to check how many episodes of Sonny With a Chance has had, that involve Chad Dylan Cooper for a good part of the episode, and the result is 14 out of 18 episodes. (However, two episodes haven't aired yet, even though one of them involves Chad). Yeah, since he's in the cast, this is justified, but guess what? Zora, played by Allisyn Ashley Arm, has been absent for 6 episodes, even though she's a member of the So Random! cast, and she still hasn't been in the major part of an episode. Also, the show's first DVD volume is getting advertised mainly because of the season finale for Mackenzie Falls. Not So Random, but Mackenzie Falls. The antagonists' show. Is this ironic or what?Alternatively, is Disney advertising Mackenzie Falls more, just because they realized more people would rather watch a drama than a sketch show?Well, we'll all see what happens in a couple of months.
I finished my second summer reading book, Hoops, by Walter Dean Myers. I picked that out, because it was the shortest book. I don't have an interest in basketball or anything. Plus, I thought it would be your average motivational sports story- kid tries to play a sport, isn't good at it, and continues to try until he gets better, and wins the big championship at the end. I was right. It was an okay book, even though I didn't find it interesting. Vacation, here I come. :D
EDIT: What? I just found out the place I'll be staying at for the week won't have internet access. ;_;
So I admit I was harsh to Suite Life on Deck when I blogged about the show a few days ago, but after watching another episode of Suite Life on Deck, my thoughts changed(The Episode was Ala-ka-scram!, in Season 2). If it weren't for the set and new characters, I would actually think it could pass as an episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. I personally like how they sort of went back to the format of Suite Life of Zack and Cody- London has her own plot, Cody has his own plot, and Zack has his own plot. The nice thing about this is I could just skip the Zack part, seeing that he's my least favorite character. Also, London got her I.Q. back, after it got lost in Boston! She went back to spoiled heiress. Currently, I'm watching In the Line of Duty, and personally, the London and Bailey side plot was one of the best parts of this series, maybe even good enough for the top 10 moments of Suite Life!
Also, on a random note, the new opening credits look waay better. And congrats to Disney for having some continuity(Cody and Bailey going out).
Lately, I don't know why, but I've been feeling angry. I mean I know why I'm feeling angry, but I haven't kept it bottled up inside me, so it's been weird why I still am mad. Usually when I'm mad, I just talk about it and I feel better, but not this time. I'm not sure why I'm still mad, I've talked about every possible accusation for why I could be mad.
Could it be the fact that summer's almost over?
Is it just some bitter feelings I've had that have resurfaced?
Is it about stuff about EM?
I'm not sure. I've talked about most of these things, yet I'm still mad.
So Disney's been promoting their new cause, Disney's Friends for Change, a lot. Sure it's for a greener Earth and all, but I don't think Disney's doing all the promoting/advertising just for a healthier future. What do I mean? Disney has had the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez sing Send it on, Disney's Friends For Change theme song. If you'd download it via iTunes, then 1 dollar would go to various international environmental charities. Yeah, sure, sounds like a good cause, but if anything, Disney's sending on their recent stars' music, not the message. I've seen plenty of these commercials, and most of them are with the stars, and barely mention going green. All they say is go to the Disney's Friends for Change website and "Reg and Pledge". Personally, I'm not so sure what this means. And after looking at the site, I didn't understand more, either. Disney hasn't really helped kids go green; they haven't given much, if any, tips on how to go green. And the tips they do give are the simple "Turn your faucet off while you brush your teeth". Yeah, I understand going green is as simple as that, but really, Disney has to be a bit more active in the educational part, and less active in the musical part. Will they improve as time goes on? Or will they continue to not send the message correctly? We'll see in Disney's later commercials for this cause.
For those of you who don't know me very well, I actually like Avril Lavigne. Back when I didn't really listen to music, her song "Complicated" popped out to me a lot. "My Happy Ending" was also another one of my favorite songs from a few years ago. Then, in 2007, she made another album, containing the hit song "Girlfriend". It was good. No, it was great. The problem? It wasn't the Avril Lavigne I knew and listened to. She went from Canada/America's Favorite Tomboy
to um, America/Canada's favorite hypocrite? Don't get me wrong, her newest album had a lot of good songs("Girlfriend", "When You're Gone", "Hot", "Everything Back but You", to name a few), but it just wasn't her. Yeah, people could change, but seriously, not that much. Especially if you had a hit song called "Sk8er Boi", which is about a ballerina rejecting a skater boy. Even though she looks waay better than she did before(Though that's just an opinion) I can't help but feel she changed too much.
So where was I again? Oh yeah. She's coming back after making the Abbey Dawn line, and her Black Star perfume fragrance. As in, she's making another album. Due November 17, 2009. She said she wrote most of these songs as a teenager, and they're going to have a lot of emotion and feeling. To be honest, I'm kind of worried, because Let Go, her debut album, didn't have the best lyrics. She wrote it when she was a teen. Plus, I'm not exactly a fan of her slow songs ("Tomorrow", and "Too Much to Ask" weren't my favorite songs). Last time I checked, slow songs held more emotion. So yeah, kinda worried.
My dream Avril album? A lot of great party songs, a good pop-punk song, and just one or two emotional songs. And if Avril sticks to her blond hair. Her first single should come out soon, though. I'm excited, overall.
Before I begin this post, let me tell you how much I dislike the Jonas Brothers. I used to like them, back at 2007, when they were still not that famous. However, after their acting debut, I soon changed my mind- the Jonas Brothers were annoying. I hated them, and any fan of them was practically my enemy. Camp Rock didn't make things any better.
Fast forward to a few months ago; I watched not one, but two episodes of JONAS, because I was forced by my cousin to watch them. She said it was funny, and I decided to watch, just to prove her wrong.
I hated it. Even worse, I despised it with a burning passion hotter than the sun. The show was just, too ugh. Everything was wrong about it. Everything. From the cast, to the jokes, to the writing, it was just horrible. I felt like every time I watched it, I became stupider.
However, a few days ago, I watched a few more episodes, unwillingly at first.(To those of you who watch JONAS, I watched Frantic Romantic and Detention) Then, I kind of, well, tolerated it. I don't know why, but something about the show seemed, well, interesting. I'm not sure what that 'Mystery Substance' is, but I'm guessing it's Macy, Nicole Anderson's character.
Do I like this show? Not really. Will I continue watching it? Maybe. Personally, I like it more than Suite Life on Deck at the moment, but at this moment, I'd like Blues Clues more than Suite Life on deck.
So my school assigned me to read Great Expectations over Summer Break for the Honors English Class, and I finally finished it, after a month. I have to tell you, though, that the version I read is the original version, not a shortened version. 466 pages. It actually wasn't that bad, though. In fact, the only thing which was hard about the book was the fact that it was written in Old English. If it were revamped, I would understand it more.
So I watched Total Drama Action today on a marathon, and I have to say, it's not as good as it's prequel, for a number of reasons:
Justin became annoying. I liked him better mute. Now he's just trying to take Heather's place as the Queen Bee. Also, it's kinda obvious that the show producers didn't know what to do with his character. Everything he does is based off of the fact that "He looks good".
Heather isn't really 'The Queen Bee' anymore; did the hair situation make her realize her mistakes?
Bridget and Geoff. Get off of each other. Now.
Izz-er, I mean, Escope. Seriously, she's just like a female version of Owen now. :\ On a side note, I remember reading her description last September on the Cartoon Network TDI site, and it said she was a stalker. However, she doesn't seem much of a stalker. Just psychotic.
Owen. I never really liked him. He just got worse.
Well, overall, though, I wouldn't say this spinoff is as bad as another spinoff, so I'm still gonna watch it. Especially seeing that it's waay better than what Cartoon Network currently has.
So everyone has their favorite songs, and these are mine for now. They change a lot though, so that's why it's called Top 5 Songs of the Moment. Anyway, here they are: 5: Silly Boy- Eva Simons: This song's catchy, and for her Eva's first single, this is actually good. There were rumors this song was by Rihanna and Lady Gaga. I believed it, mainly because the lyrics somewhat describe what could've happen between Rihanna and Chris Brown. 4: Magic's in the Makeup- No Doubt: As a No Doubt fan, I'd say this song is one of their best. The lyrics don't specifically apply to makeup alone, which makes it somewhat connect to me. I wish the song was released as a Return of Saturn single, but still, it's a good song. 3: Already Gone- Kelly Clarkson: This is a great song made by Kelly, and it's one of the better 'slow' songs she's sang. Even though the track is the same as Beyonce's Halo, I like this song more than Beyonce's. 2: You Belong With Me- Taylor Swift: For starters, the video's really great. Well, I just have a thing for those kind of stories. The lyrics are also nice, and Taylor's voice is nice, too. 1: Smile- Lily Allen: The song's beat is catchy, and the chorus is kinda true for me. :x The video's not exactly the best, but it still gets the basic 'feel' of the song down- bad things happen to you, and it makes me feel good. I like the Sims 2 video for it more, located here.(Note, it's in Simlish)
Yeah, if you didn't notice already, these songs aren't necessarily the newest or anything. They're just songs I discovered recently, and liked.
I remember a few years ago first hearing about Cory in the House. I didn't know what to expect: A good show, that would be successful as it's parent show, That's So Raven, or an awful, 7-10 year old boy oriented show, getting its humor from a bunch of cheap laughs? I felt optimistic, so I followed the first option. After watching my first episode of it, however, I wasn't so sure. Yeah, it was okay, but to be honest, I was expecting more. The show tried too hard to be like That's So Raven with its physical humor(Cory fell into horse, um, droppings), and not anything else. I thought the characters were decent and somewhat-multidimensional. I just didn't like Sophie, aka America's Angel, even though she was better than Stanley- Corey's previous nemesis. As the episodes went on, there were some good ones, and other, well, failures. That's So in The House is an example of the former category; Everybody Loves Meena of the latter category. Still, overall, the series was promising. What ticks me off the most is that they didn't even have a proper finale! Disney chose to do it about a break-up Meena had; nothing actually appropriate for a finale. Since the show was set in the White House, Disney could've have an election themed finale, like President Martinez loses the next election, so the Baxters have to go back to San Fransisco or something.
Also, I much rather would have Cory in the House stay rather than JONAS, Disney's new Jonas Brothers vehicle.
It's almost been a year since Disney has tried to keep The Suite Life of Zack and Cody alive by making a horrid spinoff of it, The Suite Life on Deck. It follows Zack, Cody, London, and Mr. Moseby as they live on the cruise S.S. Tipton. I've seen plenty of episodes of it, unfortunately, and I hate it. It's wrong on so many levels.
Zack and London became too dumb. I remember back at Season 1 on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody when Zack just didn't like books. That's fine, but now he became really, really dumb. For Exhibit A, he's friends with Woody. That's enough to prove my point. Also, I remember back at Season 1 of Zack and Cody, where London was somewhat street smart, and spoiled. Now, however, it seems like she only remembers the people around her, and how many karats are in gold.
Zack and Cody barely interact with each other. I remember back at Season 1 of Zack and Cody one of the things that I liked about the series were that Zack and Cody often pretended to be each other. Being a twin, I found it kinda cool. Okay, so they didn't pretend to be each other every episode, but at least they interacted with each other(Sister,Sister, however, is another story- they always pretend to be each other!). Now, it's like Zack has one plot, and Cody has another. Do they remember they're twins? Yeah, I know they can't pretend to be each other if they don't look exactly the same, but they barely have any of the good old twin antics.
Woody. Honestly, he's so, ugh. It's like they got Zack's underachiever-ness, and all of Nickelodeon's old potty humor, and put it in a blender, and that made Woody. Seriously, it's like all of his lines are based off of something between his toes, or gas, or other things like that.
I guess I'm also upset that Ashley Tisdale isn't on, anymore. Without Ashley, it's just not the same.
Hey everyone, this is Shiny Shinx's blog. Here, I'll write about personal things that aren't really for the site, like musicians I like, or what I think of shows or video games. I'll begin today with writing about my favorite band, No Doubt. One of my favorite things about them is the lyrics in their songs. For example, the lyrics in Happy Now? are*:
You had the best But you gave her up 'Cause dependency might interrupt Idealistic will so hard to please Put your indecisive mind at ease You broke the set Now there's, there's only singles There's no looking back And this time I mean it
Are you happy now? Tell me how You're happy now (Are you happy?)
The uncertainty you had of me Brought clouded shady company The tenderness habitual A seldom-fading ritual You killed the pair Now only one is breathing There's no looking back This time I mean it
Are you happy now? Well tell me how You're happy now (Are you happy?)
Are you happy now? How is it now? Are you happy now? (Are you happy?)
No more leaning on your shoulder I won't be there, no more bother If you feel you just might want me That's too bad, I'm not that easy
The contemplator all those years And you must adhere To your new career of liberation You've been cast all by yourself You're free at last You broke the set Now there's, there's only singles There's no looking back This time I mean it
Are you happy now? Tell me how You're happy now (Are you happy?)
Are you happy now? How is it now? Are you happy now? (Are you happy?)
Oh you're by yourself, All by yourself You've got no one else, You're by yourself All by yourself All by yourself All by yourself All by yourself No one else No one else By yourself By yourself
For me, this song just screams break-up anthem. This song isn't about asking for another chance or anything, it's just saying "You messed up big time, and there's no Undo button".Another song by No Doubt, Ex-Girlfriend, also has break-ups written about in a different light.
